ICCP Active Anode Systems for Water Heaters – Complete Kits and Components

ICCP Systems for Reliable Corrosion Protection

AnodeTech offers complete ICCP systems consisting of a mixed-oxide-coated titanium electrode, intelligent potentiostat and full installation kit.

All systems are designed to maintain the required protective potential according to DIN 4753-3 and provide stable corrosion protection without material consumption.

System Selection by Tank Volume and Type

Selection of the correct ICCP system depends on tank volume, material (enamelled steel or stainless steel) and number of heat exchangers.

Specific system recommendations (potentiostat model + number and length of titanium anodes) are provided in the detailed selection table and depend on tank volume, material, and number of heat exchangers.

System Components

Mixed-Oxide-Coated Titanium Electrode (TA)

  • Non-sacrificial design
  • MMO (Mixed Metal Oxide) coating ensures high current density and uniform distribution, even in tanks with complex internal geometries (multiple heat exchangers)
  • Available in various lengths (e.g. 200 mm, 400 mm, 800 mm and longer) depending on tank size and configuration
  • Multiple electrodes can be used in larger tanks for uniform current distribution

Potentiostat

  • Automatic regulation of protection current
  • Maintains required protective potential
  • LED status indication
  • Designed for continuous operation
  • Safety class IP II

Available models include plug-in potentiostats with different nominal current outputs (50–180 mA) and setpoint potentials adapted for enamelled steel (2.3 V) or stainless steel (1.9 V).

The potentiostat operates in a duty cycle, measuring the tank potential and adjusting the output current at millisecond intervals.

Installation Kit

  • Adapters for standard magnesium anode ports (G ¾”, G 1″, G 1¼”)
  • Universal adapter sleeves (G ¾”, G 1″, G 1¼”) ensure 100% compatibility with leading European tank brands including Buderus, Viessmann, and Vaillant
  • Electrical isolation components for correct installation
  • Connection cables and mounting accessories

Ready-to-install kit: includes pre-assembled cabling, mounting hardware and detailed multi-language manual.

Selection Criteria

  • Tank volume — determines required current output
  • Tank material — enamelled steel or stainless steel
  • Number of heat exchangers — affects internal surface area
  • Water conductivity — influences protection current demand

Standard systems cover the majority of domestic and commercial applications. For specialized industrial tanks or extreme water conditions, custom current-demand calculations can be provided based on manufacturer specifications.

Binding recommendations are based on laboratory measurements of the specific tank (standard protection current consumption).

For stainless steel tanks, systems operate at a lower setpoint level (approx. 1.9 V) to avoid over-protection effects such as hydrogen evolution in sensitive alloys.

Compatibility

  • Enamelled steel tanks
  • Stainless steel tanks (with adjusted parameters)
  • Horizontal and vertical installations
  • New installations and retrofit systems

Performance Characteristics

  • Setpoint protective potential: 2.3 V for enamelled steel tanks and 1.9 V for stainless steel tanks
  • Automatic regulation via potentiostat
  • Very low power consumption (typically a few euros per year depending on model and operating conditions)
  • Continuous protection without degradation of electrode material

Installation Options

  • Sleeve (muffen) mounting – replacement of magnesium anode
  • Insulated hole mounting with M8 bolt

Proper installation requires electrical isolation and continuous power supply.

Important: The potentiostat must remain continuously connected to the mains. Disconnecting it immediately stops corrosion protection.
